Dear Lybrate user, sulpitac is an antipsychotic medicine. Compared to its dose range 100 mg is relatively a lesser dose. You have not mentioned for what condition and when it was started and for how long he gas been taking this medicine. Based on those information only one can decide whether this medicine is needed for this condition, whether the same dose has to be continued or reduced or stopped. You better follow your doctor's suggession and abide by that. And if you are not convinced about his reply and this issue is bothering you too much ,you may consider taking a second opinion or even third opinion and decide. You don't need to change your doctor if your son is doing well with the doctor's treatment and he is approachable to you. It' may not be advisable to shift from doctor to doctor just because of our urge to stop the medicine which most of the times arises from prejudices the side effects or stigma about the illness or poor understanding about the course and outcome of the illnesses. Generally psychotic illnesses run a long course in such case one may need to take the medicines for long term. It's a general statement, need not be your context specific. So the better thing is to get to know about your son's illness and its course and outcome and take decision accordingly as per the doctors suggestion. We call this process as psycho education which most of the doctors do it as part of treatment. If you have not grasped it clearly, clarify your doctor once again and get settled with that. Let us try to accept certain realities though they are a bit bitter.

Hello sir, Ideally for depression or anxiety , treatment is given for 3-6 month and then medicines are stopped. For psychotic illnesses like schizophrenia , treatment is given for 1 year for the 1st episode and 3 years for the 2nd episode and lifelong for the 3rd episode. So unless your docotr advises to stop, please dont stop on your own. IF still you do wish to stop the medicine at your risk Give 75mg for 3 weeks 50mg for 3 weeks 25mg for 3 weeks and then stop
